If you love reading and would like to meet up with like minded people, but don’t want the pressure of a deadline or feel the need to dissect the storyline, the Silent Book Club could be just what you’re looking for.
In Guernsey, silent book club meetings are held at the Guille-Allès Library on the last Thursday of every month, where you’ll find a friendly welcome and light refreshments to help you enjoy the experience. Dates and details here.
The Writer’s Block Book Club is a relaxed, low-commitment book club built around a monthly paperback pick. There’s no need to sign up - simply pop into the store, pick up a copy, and read in your own time. Then, fill out the review card provided to help other readers find their perfect read.
If the month’s pick isn’t for you, just skip it. If you’ve already read it, you can still pick up a review card and share your thoughts. Details of the monthly titles are shared here.
The Dirty Darlings Book Club is a romance book club for readers who like their stories spicy, inclusive, and completely judgement-free. Members meet on the third Thursday evening of every month. Meetings are women-only, 18+, and perfect for anyone who loves spicy contemporary romance, romantasy, and why-choose reads.
There’s no need to bring anything with you, unless of course you want to bring along a friend. You’ll be guided through reading ideas and recommendations by the founders, Elaine and Mycha. Find out more here
This is a nourishing, weekly gathering, rooted in the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita. The group gets together on Sundays to chant mantras, read selected verses, and explore their meaning through open, heartfelt discussion. It’s a space to connect with like-minded people - and the occasional special guest - and go deeper into the philosophy at the heart of yoga.
All are welcome. The group meets at the Wellness Community Hub and no prior experience with the Gita is needed. You’ll find more details here.
Lit with Liberate is a specialist reading group for Guernsey’s LGBTQ+ community. The meetings take place once every two months at the Library to discuss a selected book which has an LGBTQ+ theme. Just turn up - it's a friendly, casual group for anyone over the age of 18.
The library has copies of the selected texts, and there is an option to go for drinks socially afterwards (and there is usually pizza). You’ll find meeting dates and the reading list here.
The Guille-Allès Library runs a Book Club for adults, meeting once a month on a Saturday afternoon. Each session varies - sometimes the group discusses a single chosen book, and other times there’s a theme, such as a shortlisted title, books by the same author, childhood favourites, or classic murder mysteries.
The Library provides the book each month for members to borrow. You'll find all the information you need here, including the reading list for the year ahead.

This hugely popular online book club celebrates novels with strong female leads, curated by Reece Witherspoon. The club has become a go-to for readers who enjoy fiction with emotional depth and a woman at the centre of the story. The monthly picks are a great way to discover new authors and find your next good read. You can join the conversation on social media if you want to, or simply enjoy the book at your own pace.
As the name suggests, this book club is part of the wider Happy Place community founded by Fearne Cotton. It’s built around finding inspiration and wellbeing through reading. Each month Fearne recommends a new, thoughtfully chosen title and, alongside Fearne’s picks, Happy Place champions books from new voices entering the wellbeing space.
One of the most influential book clubs in the world, Oprah’s Book Club has been a trusted name in reading for decades. Oprah is known for championing thought-provoking reads that stay with you, making it a good choice if you enjoy books with depth and meaning. Discussions take place on Oprah’s Good Reads Book Club group, or you can simply enjoy this as a dependable source of inspiring books.
